Steave & Poindexter Deliver at Midwest Combat Challenge 11

The NAAFS Nation was treated to a preview of what Fight Nite in the Flats VI is going to be like when the NAAFS presented Midwest Combat Challenge 11 from Chapparell’s Community Center in Akron, OH. Top to bottom it was a spectacular card; headlined by yet another fight of the year candidate. When all was said and done, the fans filed out of the arena in eager anticipation of the next NAAFS event.

The main event of Midwest Combat Challenge 11 certainly lived up to the billing.

In a National Amateur Featherweight division war, Justin “The Hawk” Steave (10-5) of H2O MMA & Main Street MMA picked up his second win in as many NAAFS events by virtue of a Rear Naked Choke submission victory at 1:48 of the second round against Bhrandon “Bad Intention” Poindexter (5-2) of Evolve MMA.

The two delivered an incredibly exciting fight, including at one point in the first round where it appeared as though each fighter had completely rocked the other.

In the end it was Steave who persevered, walking out the victor and cementing himself nicely in anticipation of the initial 2010 NAAFS Amateur Rankings release.

Hometown favorite Isaiah Chapman (4-0) of Rock Hard MMA has quickly become a force in the National Amateur Bantamwieght division and he showed exactly why with his Kimura submission win against Will “The Thrill” Logsdon (6-4) at 2:32.

Even a last minute opponent change wasn’t enough to through Chapman off his game, who quickly adjusted styles to counter his opponent and pick up another victory for the rising Rock Hard MMA gym based out of Akron, OH.

In National Amateur Middleweight division, Cory Bresson (4-1) of Warrior MMA picked up his fourth win in five NAAFS fights defeating Chad Catri (2-2) by Tap out From Strikes at 1:38 of the second round.

The Canadian grappler is another who has quietly burst on the scene in 2010, but is looking to make a serious run. The addition of a new training camp and new training partners has worked thus far, as Bresson finds himself right in the thick of the mix.

Nola “The Python” Hessom (3-0) lived up to her moniker at Midwest Combat Challenge 11, defeating local favorite “Rowdy” Rhonda Gale by Arm Bar at :51 of the first round in their National Amateur Women’s division fight.

At 3-0, Hessom is name to keep an eye on as the 2010 NAAFS season rolls on.

Evolve MMA has unleashed a new force in the National Amateur Lightweight division in the form of Clint Musser (1-0 who made a successful MMA debut against Mike “Irish Hatred” McDonald, winning by Guillotine Choke at 2:19 of the first round.

Musser has long been respected for his wrestling accomplishments, which include being a 3-time state champion, Clint has now brought the same intensity level with to the cage.

Bob Rech (3-1) of Team DNA didn’t allow his first loss to sit on his conscience for too long, as he quickly rebounded with a  victory over Chris Bradley (2-5) by Guillotine Choke at :35 of the final round.

Julian “Nitraine”  Lane (4-4) defeated Harold Stewart (2-3) by TKO when Stewart was unable to answer the bell for the second round due to a shoulder injury.

Lane could very well be dark horse in the National Amateur Lightweight division.

Bob “The Beast” Hopkins of Evolve MMA improved to 2-1 with a Head and Arm Choke submission victory over Zack Dansizen (0-1) at 1:55 of the first round in their National Amateur Welterweight division fight.

In another National Amateur Welterweight division fight, Dave “The Nightmare” Spadell (1-0) of Freeland, PA defeated Jeff “The Hammer” Himes (0-2) by Rear Naked Choke at :34 of the second round.

Trisha Barr (1-2) of Team Kana picked up the first win of her career, defeating Trish Gerus (0-1) by Arm Bar at 2:32 of the first round in this National Amateur Women’s division fight.

The Executive division showed once again that age is only a number as Scott Denneman (1-1) of Kick MMA defeated Norwalk’s Rob “The Bull” Burke (0-1) by Rear Naked Choke at 2:07 of the second round.

Whereas Denneman’s Kick MMA teammate Corey “Mama’s Boy” Gwynn (1-0) made a successful debut against Bolivar’s Nick Herron, winning by Guillotine Choke in just under a minute into his National Amateur Light Heavyweight division fight.

Relson Gracie Cleveland picked up yet another win in the NAAFS when Dave Prologo (2-0) defeated Jeff “The Jarhead” Snyder (0-1) by Unanimous Decision.

The opening fight of the card saw Jake Huffman (1-0) of Nutter MMA pick up a first round submission victory over Nick Spishock Jr (0-1) by Rear Naked Choke at 1:33 in.

The NAAFS would like to thank all of the fans in Akron for your support of this event. In addition a special thank you goes out Mr. John P. Lennon, Tim Lally Chevrolet, Bud Light, U.S. Army, Basement at the Lakes, Bloody Buddy Fight Gear, MMAFit.com, BetonFighting.com, USTREAM.tv, and SportsTime Ohio for helping make this event possible.
