Official Bout Order Released

10/4/10 Cleveland, OH: Injuries are an unfortunate reality when it comes to MMA as most fighters can testify. However in some cases, one fighters untimely injury can lead to another s opportunity as is the case this Saturday night in Cleveland in the co-main event at Caged Fury 12. Team GriffonRawls George Comer (7-0) will step in for injured teammate Matt Hopkins in a national amateur series semi-final bout against former GriffonRawl standout Nick Kilian (5-0), now training at Team Relson Gracie.

Comer, the 2009 NAAFS national amateur lightweight champion, will be moving up a weight class as he looks to make history and become the first ever amateur to win consecutive national titles in two different weight classes.

Kilian has long been considered one of the premier competitors in the NAAFS national amateur series welterweight division as he’s mowed thru competition en route to an unbeaten 5-0 record. Perhaps only an untimely injury kept Kilain from competing in last years semi-finals but it appears that the stars have aligned for the heavy handed Kilian in 2010 and now only Comer stands in his way from a shot at amateur MMA’s ultimate prize.

An interesting twist to this bout is the common link between the two fighters as both have been trained by current NAAFS Pro Series Lightweight co-champion Jason Dent as Kilian spent the majority of his amateur MMA career under Dent as a member of regional power Team GriffonRawl. The normally mild mannered Kilian was part of a somewhat public message board feud that included his former instructor that had local fight fans buzzing. Now a prominent member of Team Relson Gracie in Cleveland, Kilian will no doubt look to prove the change of scenery has paid off while Comer will fight for more then just a shot at amateur MMA history.

The other side of the 170 lbs bracket pits Evolve MMA’s Josh Oppenheimer (4-2) as he rides a 2 fight NAAFS winning streak to the semis against the highly regarded Bill Morosetti (6-2) of H20 MMA. Morosetti most recently competed in June at Fight Nite in the Flats 6 and defeated 2009 national amateur champion Reggie Parks by first round submission. Thee well rounded Morosetti looks to cap a stellar amateur career with a run at the gold as the 2010 amateur season nears its conclusion, while Oppenheimer looks to prove he belongs among the elite in the NAAFS.

Arguably the most explosive division the amateur series, 145 lbs, will see two eagerly anticipated match ups between Ohio BJJC product RJ Buck (8-1) as he battles PM Fight Clubs Clint Mussleman (4-2) and top ranked Justin Steave (10-5) of Team Impact/H20 MMA when he clashes with the unbeaten Francis Healy (5-0) of Mad Dog Fight team. Justin Steave, a long time NAAFS veteran, is on the verge of capping a stellar amateur career by capturing NAAFS gold but Healy has quietly risen to the top of the division with his 3-0 record in the NAAFS in 2010.

Twenty one year old RJ Buck’s MMA career Is only just beginning but already with 9 fights under his belt, this accomplished high school wrestler now looks to take the next step in his career and add a national title to his already impressive resume. Mussleman will no doubt look for an opportunity to avenge a previous defeat (KO rd 1) to the hands of Justin Steave but first he will have to get through Buck who is riding a four fight winning streak.

Perhaps the breakout amateur fighter for the 2010 season has been Team Impacts Nelson Best (5-1) whos KO victories over James Rankin and Strong Style Windham Craig have propelled Best to the top of the HW division. Standing in his way will be the hard hitting slugger from West Virginia, Nathan Bryant (7-3). This heavyweight collision has all the makings to be a “Fight of the Year” candidate when Best and Bryant fight for the opportunity to face 2009 National Champion Rick Day in December for this years crown.

In addition, 2009 national finalist Chase Owens (6-20 battles Milan Wesley (4-2) in a middleweight semi-final bout as both fighters bring in a well rounded and all out attack in what will no doubt be one of the nights most entertaining match ups.

Also top ranked Isaiah Chapman (5-1) looks to take one step closer to December when he tangles with Team Titans Matt Montgomery (3-1) and NAAFS veteran Brandon Poindexter (6-3) moves down to 135 lbs and replaces the injured Stephen Morrison as he takes on the crafty Brett Gruber (3-2) in a semi-final bout.

Caged Fury 12 will not be streamed live on Ustream. The only way to catch the action for this event is live and in person.
