Midwest Combat Challenge 12 Review
Waite Impressive in NAAFS debut
11/23/10 (Akron, OH): The NAAFS returned to one of its most familiar venues in Chapparells Community Center where over a dozen NAAFS shows have taken place in years past but Midwest Combat Challenge 12 may go down as one of the most memorable to date. With over 10,000 fans watching live on Ustream and as a capacity crowd inside Chapparells, fans witnessed a night of fights as competitive as any before it.
In the main event, newcomer Paul Waite of Team Air-Gadfly in Jamestown, New York improved to 4-0 with a big win over NAAFS veteran Kenny Jackson. Waite was able to neutralize Jackson’s athleticism and control the fight for all three rounds as he went on to win by unanimous decision. Look for Waite to be a force in the 2011 national amateur lightweight divison.
Evolve MMA founder and head trainer John Cook won in his MMA debut over Team Impacts Fred Davis by unanimous decision. The more experience Davis showed courage while taking the fight on less then a weeks notice after an injury forced Cooks original opponent to withdraw, however Cooks superior wrestling was the difference in this one.
Jorge Gurgel product Isaac Steel improved to 5-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Andrew Jordan. Steel, who brings a well balanced and aggressive style of fighting to the cage, will be another fighter to watch in the 2011 NAAFS amateur series.
Strong Styles Dustin Wolf (2-0) took care of Dallas Dishman in the opening round in one of the nights featured bouts. A rear naked choke would seal the deal for Wolf who will have high expectations as well in next years ultra competitive welterweight division.
Team Instigator continued its winning ways at Chapparells as both Terry Smith and Pat Schottenheimer picked up wins on Saturday.
Smith outlasted a game Angelo Carpenter to win by split decision
Schottenheimer finished his opponent by third round TKO.
Ronda Gale improved to 3-2 with a hard fought victory over NAAFS veteran Marcia May and Team Relson Gracie’s Joe SanFilippo won his second straight NAAFS contest.
The NAAFS returns to action tonight in East Liverpool, Ohio with Caged Fury 12 then follows on December 4th with Night of Champions. Dont forget to check out the debut of NAAFS Proving Grounds on December 11th at the Saddle Ridge in Parma, Ohio. Look for the 2011 NAAFS event schedule to be released in the coming days on www.NAAFS.tv.
Midwest Combat Challenge 12 was sponsored by Discount Drug mart, Bud Light, John P Lennon, Lally Chevrolet, Intimidation Clothing and the TV home of the NAAFS, Sports Time Ohio.
