Midwest Combat Challenge 13 Results
3/13/11 (Akron, OH): The NAAFS kept the momentum going after another highly successful event, this time featuring an all amateur card that once again would not dissapoint the near capacity crowd in attendance.
National amateur series contenders Nate Mango, Stefan Mullins, Mike Putnam and AJ Materna were all impressive on Saturday night and will likely be ranked nationally when the initial 2011 NAAFS rankings are released in late May.
In what some might call an upset, Nate Mango suprised Chuck Schilling early in the contest sinking in the finishing guillotine in just 33 seconds of the opening round while Stefan Mullins squeaked out a split decision victory over the tough Matt Street in what may have been the fight of the night.
NAAFS staple teams Evolve MMA, GriffonRawl, Air-Gadfly, Nutter MMA, Mainstreet MMA and Ohio BJJC all had solid team performances while up and coming teams Hill MMA, Team Titan and Relson Gracie Cleveland continue to move up the ranks of regional teams.
The NAAFS female division was also on display Saturday night as Meghan Joyce took care of a game Rebecca Gruitza forcing her to tap with a rear naked choke in another highly entertaining bout.
Ohio BJJC product Dave Overton is another fighter to watch in the 2011 national series, winning his bout Saturday by second round TKO over a tenacious Tony Depietro who did not go quietly.
